Update, February 14th, 2012: Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I got home late, but now I am here to announce that the contest has officially ended! So please give around 4-5 days as I will discuss with the judges who will win the prizes. I must thank everyone who joined and supported this contest from the bottom of my heart...I never thought I'd receive so much feedback for my first contest, and I am truly amazed by all of these beautiful entries.

Prompt:What you will be making for this contest will revolve around my Bleach OC, Marise Asahina and her love interest from Bleach, Shinji Hirako. Allow me to first give you some background on these two characters:
Marise Asahina
"You think I look fat in this, don't you? DON'T YOU!?"Mari is a girl who is half-French and is a Fullbringer in the Bleach realm. She is energetic and vibrant, yet pretty whiny, dramatic, and not too bright. She hates math, Hello Kitty, and people who she think are prettier than her. (From that you can tell she's pretty vain and materialistic.) She's also quite insecure, especially about her weight. She loves eating ice cream, anyone wearing glasses, and is obsessed with the anime
Lupin III and anything American. Her favorite color, naturally, is pink! She is usually one to deny everything she doesn't want to believe in her life, creating a sort of "fantasy" around her. Oh, and she also can't cook or sing to save her life!
Shinji Hirako
"Ah, what a cute girl...ya must be my first love~!"This guy is the de facto leader of the Visored, fallen from his high post as the former Captain of Squad 5. He's pretty much a goofball and a flippant character. He's very perverted and refers to most cute girls he meet as his "first love." He enjoys listening to jazz music. Shinji also has a very suave style of dress, usually wearing outfits consisting of ties, collared-shirts and slacks, occasionally donning a newsboy cap. Despite his goofy exterior, underneath Shinji Hirako is a very perceptive man, being one of the few to detect that something was askew with his then-Lieutenant Sosuke Aizen. He is also very powerful; if you thought his Shikai was badass, imagine what his Bankai would be like!

- Marise is also quite tsundere and doesn't like to admit her feelings, so she often pushes Shinji away. She is also easily embarrassed.
- Shinji can get quite jealous when Marise fawns over someone due to her glasses fetish, and often takes advantage of that...
- Mari is also a cheerleader and works at a maid cafe, so there's always some kinkiness involved due to that.
- Their shipping names are: ShinMari (obvious), Muffin-Pie (longer story), and BowTie (because Mari always wears a bow in her hair and Shinji always wears a tie.)
- Even when Shinji tries to compliment Mari, she always takes it as an insult, because she has low self-esteem and thinks he's lying.
- Shinji just loves to tease her, because he enjoys getting her all flustered.
- Shinji is 5'9" and Marise is 4'11", so there is quite a height difference. In terms of visualization I'd say that Marise comes to about eye-level with Shinji's chest.
- When they first met Mari tied a red string around both hers and Shinji's finger so that neither of them would forget a simple date, however, the meaning turned out to be much deeper; creating an everlasting promise of love.
- They officially became a couple on December 25th, Christmas evening, after Mari confessed to liking him.
- Their first kiss was right on New Year's, as fireworks were going off behind them. (Incredibly corny, huh?)
Rules:- You can enter as many times as you'd like! However, know that you cannot win more than one prize.
- Entries must be recent, as in, made after this journal has been posted. No per-existing pieces may be entered.
- Bases are allowed, but absolutely NO TRACING, editing pictures, etc. (You will be immediately disqualified and reported if you've stolen art.)
- NO SKETCHES OR WIP'S. Your entry must be fully complete. You are allowed to edit it once you've submitted it if you'd like or switch it out for another. (Or keep both.)
- All types of media are allowed, traditional art, digital, literature, even photography! So long as it follows the theme.
- You may include other characters if you'd like, however the main focus must be Shinji and Marise.
- You can change their outfits, so long as the characters are still recognizable. However, I must ask that you keep Mari's pink bow in her hair, since she never goes without it.
- You can create any setting you'd like! It can just pertain to a simple Valentine's theme with hearts, can be at a New Year's festival, celebrating any other holiday, or even take place in an alternate universe, so long as it follows the theme.
I ask that you do NOT create anything wedding-themed, depicting them being married or having children. Thank you.- Make sure you have the link of this journal in the description of your entry and that the title has "contest entry" in it or something similar.
- Also remember to put the proper disclaimers for the characters and any resources you used.
- The center theme must be
romance. It is for Valentine's Day after all. However, it can be angsty romance, humorous romance, etc.
- Your entry can contain nudity, be ecchi, and slightly smutty if you wish, however, Marise is 17, so nothing too sexual. Be sure your entry meets all DA submission rules.
- Please try to submit your entry on time. I know how life can get in the way, but if you can't make it, then you can't make it. I don't want to have to extend the deadline six times so that the contest goes into June, missing the entire purpose of why the deadline was Valentine's day in the first place. So please, know what your schedule is and if you have time for it or not. I won't be hurt if you say you'll enter and then don't, so don't worry.
- Either note me when you're done or comment on this journal with a link to your entry. I will favorite all entries in a folder labeled, "Love and Be Loved Contest." All entries will also be placed in the Contest folder of the
MariseFC.

Judging:The entry you submit will be judged based on a number of factors:
- For literature: grammar, spelling, details, the setting, and making sure it fits the theme.
- For visual media: meeting the theme, creativity, effort, amount of detail, whether or not it has a background, and other elements.
Prizes:NOTE! You do not have to accept all parts of your prize if you don't wish to.

Squinted blue eyes stared intently and the owner of said blue eyes upturned her full, pink lips in a pout. Asahina Marise grumbled as she tapped her foot impatiently. She was having a difficult time in choosing.
"Are you...all right, Ma'am?" A store clerk stood behind Marise, a thin eyebrow raised because of her odd behavior. "Can I help you with something, perhaps?"
Marise blinked, noticing the other shoppers also staring at her. They whispered amongst themselves and she began to feel slightly self-conscious. She straightened herself up, a light blush across her peach-hued cheeks, and then glared at the various customers.
"Well? What are you all looking at? There's nothing to stare at!"
They immediately went back to their own shopping at seeing the fierceness in her eyes. The store clerk put on a phony smile and repeated her question. "Is there anything I can-"

Marise hurried back home as soon as she could, groceries and a cookbook in hand. She tied her pink apron around her waist as well as her hair back in a ponytail. Opening the cookbook, she quickly scrolled through the table of contents to look for an easy and quick recipe. Her eyes fell upon one interesting recipe.
"Chocolate hearts... This looks too easy! I can totally do this!"
She ran around the kitchen, mixing ingredients, heating up and cooling on the stove, and making sure the treats were shaped into cute, little hearts. Once they were finished cooling on the baking tray, Marise giggled as she picked one up to taste it.
The chocolate melted between her lips...but the taste was horrible. Like a mixture of human feet, ketchup, and rotten eggs. Marise almost vomited after taking a single bite, immediately spit it out of her mouth as she made a face. "Eww! These taste awful!"

Marise tapped her foot softly against the black brick sidewalk under her; biting the inside of her cheek as she crossed her arms tightly in front of her chest. Her bright blue eyes flickered across the scenery in front of her; the light pollution of Tokyo easily overpowered the stars and the moon, the black-blue sky had been dyed a chaos of red, white, orange, yellow, neon green and pink, fluffy white snow was softly drifting down and would melt as soon as it touched her skin or hair. The sounds of hundreds of people chattering and cars and scooters zooming across the street, along with airplanes flying overhead rang in her ears.
She sighed heavily, a cloud of white ghosting in front of her lips; the sight of the dozen other couples sighing happily as they exchanged chocolates, scarves, ties and perfume or had hot chocolate together as they watched the snow fall or they simply held hands and whispered sweet nothings in each others' ears made h
